early bird

I was never a morning person but lately I have been waking up around 6 am and I'm really feeling the difference. I have more energy, by 9 o'clock I feel like I've already accomplished a lot, and I sleep much better at night. I'm sure it also has something to do with the fact that I'm exercising more now, whereas I've never exercised in my life before (um, does typing on a keyboard count as fingers exercise? :P), but whatever it is, I've never felt this kind of lightness before. And I love it. Reminds me of this poem by Mary Oliver, one of my faves:

Why I Wake Early

Hello, sun in my face.
Hello, you who make the morning
and spread over the fields
and into the faces of the tulips
and the nodding morning glories,
and into the windows of, even, the
miserable and the crotchety -

best preacher that ever was,
dear star, that just happens
to be where you are in the universe
to keep us from ever-darkness,
to ease us with warm touching,
to hold us in the great hands of light -
good morning, good morning, good morning.

Watch, now, how I start the day
in happiness, in kindness.

Work is still hectic. I still have a lot of loose ends to tie before the end of the school year. I still haven't figured out what I'll do for the summer. My finances are still a mess. I could go on and on. But it doesn't matter. I have my mornings. And for that I am truly grateful.

Hope you have a wonderful Sunday wherever you are

  1. I indulge in these secret early mornings myself...they are delightful, aren't they? Mary Oliver is a goddess!
    Love to you,
