a single man

I watched the movie A Single Man this weekend and absolutely loved it. It is Tom Ford's directorial debut and as one might expect from this talented fashion designer, every frame is visually stunning, so much so that sometimes all that beauty can be a little distracting. The actors, the set design, the clothes, the car, each detail is perfection.

But the heart of this film is really Colin Firth. He plays an English professor in the early 60s coming to terms with the sudden death of his partner of 16 years. As he struggled to deal with his loneliness and despair, one can't help but think of all those times in our lives when we were placed in a similar situation, trying to find meaning when it seems as though all hope is gone. I highly recommend this movie if only to watch his magnificent performance.

  3. ro, go watch it! i'm sure you'll love it as much as i do. and that first pic with the LA sunset in the background has got to be one of the most beautiful scenes i've ever seen in a film, it looks like a magazine ad or something.

holly, in my mind colin firth will always be mr. darcy. always. but he was indeed phenomenal in this movie and i hope he wins the best actor award in the oscars.
